Anna Ray :: Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Designer

I am an international artist and my textile designs are derived from original artworks. I use drawing, painting, mixed-media and digital imaging to create unique and eclectic prints. I am skilled in Photoshop and Illustrator and have years of experience working with UK print specialists and photographers in the realisation of my designs.

I can create designs from a wide range of starting points, from both 2D and 3D work, digital and hand painted, photographic and collage. I have an experimental approach and I am a perfectionist. I believe in fine-tuning all aspects of my work in order to create unforgettable prints.

I develop ideas using a combination of traditional techniques and new technology: gouache painting, drawing, collage, assemblage, digital photography, mixed media, Photoshop and Illustrator. I am excited by the challenge of ambitious, complex designs and more minimal, rhythmic repeats, employing simple motifs. I am experienced in the production and assessment of print samples, creating different colour-ways, scaling and perfecting the subtle details of each print.

I was formerly a lecturer in Art and Design, Drawing and Painting and Tapestry at Edinburgh College of Art. I have a strong interest in the history of textiles and Art textiles. My research into museum collections worldwide is ongoing and informs all of my work. In 2014 I was invited to be one of the jurors of ARTAPESTRY4 in Copenhagen .

I am always open to discuss commissions and freelance work. I have a studio in Hertfordshire, close to London, where I base my practice.
